We have made nine-year compulsory education universal in Qingpu. By the end of the year 2002, there are 31 infant schools, 23 primary schools, 3 nine-year schools of coherent system, 21 junior secondary schools, 2 complete secondary schools, 4 senior secondary schools, 3 secondary vocational schools, 18 adult schools, 2 special education schools, 1 juvenile sports school and 9 other educational units with a total enrollment of 69,473 students. There are 1924 retired and 5745 in-service teachers and employees, among which 5017 full-time teachers and 8 teachers of special classification. All teachers are qualified. And senior teachers take 5.6% and intermediate teachers take 59.8%. In 2002, the proportion of junior secondary schools students entering schools of a higher grade(including senior secondary schools, secondary technical schools, secondary vocational schools) is 98%, and the proportion of high schools students entering universities and colleges(three-year and four-year) is 72%.
