In 2002 Qingpu’s gross domestic product reached RMB 1.68 billion, up 16.9% compared to last year, 5 percentage points higher than planned. This was the highest growth rate of link relative since 1998, and recorded the successive fifth year of the growth rate with 3 percentage points higher than that of Shanghai’s annual average. The primary industry grew by RMB 0.93 billion, an increase of 5.2%; the secondary industry increased RMB 10.34 billion, up 17.9%; the tertiary industry increased RMB 5.6 billion, up 17.2%. The proportion among the three industries was 5.5:61.3:33.2. Compared to the level of the last year the primary industry decreased by 0.6 percent, the secondary industry increased by 0.5 percent and the tertiary industry grew by 0.1 percent. The GDP per capital of the whole district reached RMB 36,700, which was US$ 4434 according to the present exchange rate, increased by US$ 618 over last year.
